vmware NSX
Intro:
Reason of deploying NSX:
NSX Ecosystem:
1. NSX Manager - installs as OVA file & from that you can create other components from a user interface. 1 manager for 1 vcenter. No involvement in Data path. Dependent on vSphere HA. VM requirement (4 vCPU, 12 GB RAM, 60 GB Storage)
2. Host Kernel Extensions & User World Agent
3. NSX Controller - Deployed in Cluster mode in 3 or 5 etc.., VXLAN directory Services (MAC, ARP & VTEP tables), Multicast is mandatory, Uses an IP Pool for address assignment, Not in Data Path, Resource requirement (4 vCPU, 4GB of RAM)
4.Network Service Appliance (Edge, Distributed Router Controller, Resource requirements (1-6 vCPU, 512-8GB RAM, 512-4.5 Storage)
(All are virtual)
NSX Deployment:
1.Install NSX OVA file as a VM
2.Login to NSX manager using the assigned IP (check the Management service is running)
3.Provide lookup service
4.provide vcenter information
5.Login to vcenter & you should see "Networking & Security" icon
6.Navigate to NSX Manager (Networking & Security) in vcenter
7.Add IP Pool for NSX controller
8.Add IP Pool for VTEP
9.Add Controller
(Navigare to Host Preparation & enable Host for VXLAN, VXLAN is done at Cluster level)
10.Confiure VLAN for VXLAN which creates DV port group
11.Create Logical Switch which creates Segments for VMs.
etc..............>>>>>>>>>>
- Acquired Nicira
- Two version NSXv (vSphere only) & NSX-mh (multi-hypervisor)
- NSX is virtual appliance
- Need vCenter server 5.5 or later
- NSX installs kernel modules on the vSphere hosts
- Layer on top of VDS
Reason of deploying NSX:
- Network Abstraction (runs on VXLAN)
- Automation
- Distributed Logical Routing
- Distributed Firewall
- Edge Services
- 3rd Party Extension
- Greatly reduces network traffic
- Every vSphere Host can inspect & apply policies
